Røros is on the UNESCO World Heritage List
The site comprises the town and its industrial-rural cultural landscapes; Femundshytta, a smelter with its associated area and the winter transport route. Completely rebuilt after its destruction by Swedish troops in 1679, Røros contains about 2000 wooden one- and two-storey houses.
A short history
Røros Hotell was completed in 1951. In 1977 the hotel took over Kaffestuggu in Røros, as well as Vertshuset Røros in 1988. The conference center Storstuggu was finished in 1999, in cooperation with the municipality.
Local specialties
In Røros you’ll find unspoilt nature, fish in the rivers and lakes and game in the forests and national parks. We grow our own produce which has adapted itself to the mountain climate. The town is surrounded by small farms which produce meat and dairy products.
